  4. Thank you for purchasing my disc, Cooking 
  5. with Dom DeLuise.  I know you'll love these 
  6. recipes, and have fun while you're making 
  7. them.
  8.  
  9. This README file contains important and 
  10. helpful hints for using Cooking with Dom 
  11. DeLuise.
  12.  
  13. Since we ended up with so many delicious 
  14. recipes and videos, we had to make two 
  15. separate discs.  Depending on where you 
  16. purchased my product, you may have Disc 1 
  17. (meats, fish, poultry & pastas), Disc 2 
  18. (salads, vegetables, appetizers, breads and 
  19. desserts) or both!
  20.  
  21. If you have any problems installing or 
  22. running this disc, don't call me at home; 
  23. call Allegro New Media, instead.  Their phone 
  24. number is 201-808-1992; technical support is 
  25. available from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST.  In

  32. INSTALLING THIS CD-ROM ON A MACHINE WITH 
  33. WINDOWS 3.1
  34. Note:  If you have the two disc Cooking with 
  35. Dom DeLuise set, you can install from either 
  36. CD-ROM.  There is no need to do a separate 
  37. install from both disks.
  38.  
  39. 1. Please shut down other applications before 
  40. running Setup. Do not remove the CD while 
  41. install is running. 
  42. 2. Start Windows
  43. 3. In the Program Manager window, chose RUN 
  44. from the file menu.  Type "D:\SETUP" (where 
  45. D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and 
  46. click OK.
  47. 4. The install program will ask you if the 
  48. destination direction (default directory), 
  49. usually "C:\COOK" is OK.
  50. 5. Click on FULL - INSTALL ALL FILES. 
  51. 6. Files will be copied onto your hard drive.  
  52. A new directory will be created called COOK.  
  53. Click on yes when asked "Do you want to 
  54. create Program Manager Group."
  55. 7. You will be asked if you want to install 
  56. Video for Windows 1.1e.  If you have an 
  57. earlier version of Video for Windows, install 
  58. the new version by clicking on CONTINUE or 
  59. click on EXIT to not install Video for 
  60. Windows.  Do not be alarmed if a dialog box 
  61. indicates that files are being removed. Files 
  62. necessary for audio and video will be copied 
  63. to your hard disk.  In order to use these 
  64. multimedia features you will have to re-boot 
  65. your machine after installation (this updates 
  66. your Windows configuration for video).

  69. IF YOU RUN INTO PROBLEMS INSTALLING COOKING 
  70. WITH DOM DELUISE, PLEASE CHECK THE FOLLOWING:
  71. 1. You must have 4 MB free on your hard 
  72. drive, usually C drive.
  73. 2. You need a minimum of 4 MB of memory, but 
  74. 8 MB of memory is suggested.

  77. Installing this CD-ROM on a machine with 
  78. Windows 95
  79. There are two ways of installing:
  80.  
  81. The first way is to let Windows 95 "auto 
  82. install" -- insert the CD-ROM into your 
  83. drive and wait for an installation message to 
  84. appear on your screen.  If you want to 
  85. continue the installation, click OK.  The 
  86. installation will proceed.
  87.  
  88. The second way is to manually launch the 
  89. setup program.  This is done by clicking on 
  90. the START button on the TASK bar and clicking 
  91. the RUN option.  A dialog box will open. Type 
  92. in "D:\SETUP", where D is the letter of 
  93. your CD-ROM drive.  Click OK to proceed.
  94.  
  95. Note: This CD-ROM will auto run on Windows 95 
  96. by simply inserting the CD-ROM into the drive.

  99. VIDEO QUESTIONS AND SOLUTIONS
  100. Cooking with Dom DeLuise was designed to run 
  101. at VGA (640 x 480) resolution. 
  102.  
  103. Some video drivers will not play the resized 
  104. video without unusual color changes.  If you 
  105. have unusual color changes when you resize 
  106. the video, then try changing your video 
  107. driver to standard VGA (640 x 480) resolution 
  108. with 256 colors.  This change is made from 
  109. within Windows Setup (in the Main program 
  110. group) by selecting the driver Super VGA 
  111. (640x480x256).  If you still get strange 
  112. color changes when resized the video, that 
  113. means your video driver cannot properly 
  114. support the larger format.  Contact the 
  115. manufacturer of your PC or VGA card for 
  116. updated drivers if this problem persists.
  117.  
  118. The first time you view a video, Windows will 
  119. profile your display to determine optimum 
  120. playback characteristics.  The video and 
  121. audio sequences on Cooking with Dom DeLuise 
  122. work best on 486 level or greater machines 
  123. with fast CD-ROM drives.  In order to keep 
  124. pace with these videos, it is normal to drop 
  125. video frames and small audio segments on 
  126. slower machines.  A faster CD-ROM drive, 
  127. faster processor or video accelerator may 
  128. enhance the playback of these videos.
  129.

  131. Since the videos on Cooking with Dom DeLuise  
  132. use 256 colors, machines configured for 16 
  133. colors may display videos at a lower 
  134. resolution (the videos will appear grainy).  
  135. If you are sure you have a 256 color display 
  136. adapter but can only see 16 colors, it may be 
  137. necessary to change your Windows setup.  
  138. Refer to your Windows manual or hardware 
  139. supplier for assistance with this process.
  140.  
  141. Owners of IBM Thinkpad 755CD portable 
  142. computers may not be able to hear the audio 
  143. tracks that are associated with the videos.  
  144. This problem was caused by an update to IBM's 
  145. MWAVE software, which causes a conflict with 
  146. interleaved audio from within Asymetrix 
  147. Toolbook.  Contact IBM to get updated 
  148. drivers, or connect an external audio card to 
  149. the computer to hear these audio tracks.

  152. TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
  153. USING SEARCH
  154. The list of ingredients includes all the 
  155. items that could potentially be used in 
  156. either Cooking with Dom DeLuise disc.  Your 
  157. search results may suggest a recipe that is 
  158. on another disc.
  159.  
  160. The search is an "AND" search.  In other 
  161. words, if you your search items are flour and 
  162. sugar, the search will find recipes that have 
  163. BOTH flour and sugar.
